As promised in its last Wednesday's announcement, Google has started rolling out its recently unveiled Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system to LG-made Nexus 4 handsets.

After the initial posting of factory images images by Google last week, the company by the weekend posted the Android 5.0 Lollipop factory image for Nexus 4 on its developer website, and then over the weekend was reported by users to have started rolling out the update over-the-air (OTA).

As seen in a couple of images (above) posted by users on a Reddit thread, the Android 5.0 Lollipop update weighs 394.4MB and users are being told to ensure the handset has more than 50 percent battery charge along with a 500MB of space free before starting the installation process. Also, the update is being rolled out in a staggered manner, so it may take a while for it to reach all regions. It is worth noting that the latest Android version appears not to be rolling out yet to Indian Nexus 5 models.

Google last week announced the Android 5.0 Lollipop OTA update for older Nexus devices (namely, the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7 (2012 and 2013), and Nexus 10). Following Google closely, Motorola also officially announced the OTA rollout of the latest Android update for its second-generation Moto G and Moto X smartphones.

In addition, Android 5.0 Lollipop MR1 (which may become Android 5.1 Lollipop) was recently spotted running on a Nexus 5 handset during a Devoxx conference in Belgium. It is speculated that Android 5.1 will not include very many new features or changes.
