iPhone 6s Force Touch Features, Stronger Casing, and More Details Tipped

As Apple's anticipated September 9 event comes close, a bunch of new leaks have hit the Web for the next iPhone models detailing the new Force Touch feature, stronger metal casing, and the new display technology.

Force Touch technology, one of the most talked-about features of the rumoured iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, will reportedly be used to access shortcut options, pull-up menus, and turning on new functions. Force Touch would throw up different options depending on where the user utilises it with the touch interface. Also, the iOS version of Force Touch is internally being called as 'Orb', said sources according to 9to5Mac.

It is not yet clear as to on what apps, pages, or screens it would work, and how. However, as per the report, the next iPhone might allow users to open an app to a specific screen, instead of its main menu, when Force Touching the app icon. Also speculated is that Force Touching a location in the Maps app would directly trigger turn-by-turn navigation. Another example suggests the feature can be used to pull up pop-ups on the display, like the feature already present in Apple Watch. However, instead of taking up the full screen, the iOS version of the Force Touch might only show a small pop-up besides where the user has tapped on the display or at the bottom of the screen as a card.

Force Touching a song in an app is also said to show up options to add it to a playlist, save it offline, or more. In addition, the feature might also work like it does in the new 12-inch MacBook - where users can see previews of a website when Force Touching a link on the Safari browser, or could see the definition of the word by Force Touching it. Needless to say, Apple has not yet confirmed anything about the handset or the feature. It could just announce the feature for developers at the upcoming event. The source added that the upcoming iPhone model would run on Apple's A9 processor, clubbed with 2GB RAM, and offer faster LTE speeds with efficient chips for longer battery life.

Meanwhile, a new video by Unbox Therapy has also surfaced on the Internet, analysing the rumoured iPhone 6s' metal casing. The issue reminds us about the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus' 'bendgate' controversy in which the durability of the smartphones was questioned. The video compares the metal casing of the rumoured iPhone 6s with that of current generation models. According to the video, the back plate of the upcoming handset measures 138.2x67.16x1.9mm as compared to iPhone 6's 138.09x66.91x1.14mm. The slightly thicker dimensions are said to be part of Apple's reply to the 'bendgate' controversy, making the smartphone sturdier.

The new metal frames are said to be stronger where the volume keys and power button are placed since that region was said to be the weakest point in the current models. The video also shows the new metal casing as lighter than the current casing despite being taller, wider, and thicker. While the iPhone 6 casing weighs 27 grams, the alleged iPhone 6s' casing is seen weighing at 25 grams in the video. The Force Touch feature is however expected to add some weight to the final smartphone.

A second video has also popped-up in the wild showing the screen of the rumoured iPhone 6s and comparing it with the current iPhone 6. The video by an European vendor MacManiack (via 9to5Mac) once again hints on the inclusion of the Force Touch feature in the upcoming smartphone, as well as the integration of the fingerprint sensor and home button onto the display - something previously rumoured. The vendor in the video suggests that the "Touch ID home button is integrated in the LCD and digitiser connector," and that there are two different connectors for Touch ID and for the digitiser.

Whatever the final product may be, it would not stay hidden for long as there is less than a month remaining for the Apple's September 9 event, where it is likely to show the new iPhone models, the new Apple TV, and new iPad models.
