  • Apple to remove the 3.5mm audio jack from the iPhone 7.
  • Will not ship Lightning earpods.
  • The iPhone 7 will be bundled with a Lightning to 3.5mm adapter instead.

Apple and its anticipated removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus has done the rounds of the rumour mills for months now, however, there have been plenty of rumours to the contrary. Now, a fresh leak claimed Apple is indeed ditching the 3.5mm headphone jack, but that it will ship the regular 3.5mm EarPods in the box alongside a Lightning-to-3.5mm adapter - and not the Lightning-powered EarPods rumoured to accompany the 3.5mm jack lacking iPhone 7.

This latest leak comes out of Macotakara, and it claims that Apple plans to bundle normal 3.5mm EarPods with the iPhone 7 so that its users could use it on other devices as well. The report also testifies further to the 256GB variant rumour. Apple is expected to ditch the 16GB variant, and make 32GB as the new base storage variant. Other rumours indicate Apple will also discontinue the 64GB variant, and introduce the 128GB variant.

The report further claims that there are going to be two speaker grilles on each side of the Lightning port now that there is more space with no 3.5mm audio jack. However, both speakers will be 'on a monaural system', and not the stereo speakers as previously rumoured.

With numerous reports going either way on the inclusion of the 3.5mm headphone jack in the iPhone 7, we recommend you take the above rumour with a pinch of salt.

In any case, the iPhone 7 is expected to release in September in three variants - iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 7 Pro/Plus Premium. A change in antenna bands position, and support for dual-SIM trays is also expected. The larger variant is expected to see a bump to 3GB RAM to accommodate the dual camera setup at the back. There's also a Smart Connector expected at the back of the large variant to attach accessories.
