HMD Global's budget smartphone Nokia 5, launched back at MWC 2017 and then brought to India in June, recently underwent an extensive durability test on JerryRigEverything's YouTube channel. The test involved a variety of scratch, bend, and burn tests to determine how durable the Nokia 5 was.

JerryRigEverything started off with the scratch test, which the Nokia 5 survived for quite some time after finally succumbing to scratches on level 6 of the Moch scale. He even went on to test the home button (made out of glass) and the front camera, both of which survived the test.

The Nokia logo on the back of the Nokia 5, although, scratched easily while the new glass protector for the rear camera sensor protected it from scratches, unlike the plastic camera protector on the Nokia 3. Even the rear flash is protected by tough glass. JerryRigEverything claims that this feature "alone is reason enough to spend a bit more money and jump up to the Nokia 5."

Moving on to the burn test, the Nokia 5 was subject to a flame that burned its display after 10 seconds of exposure. This result was achieved when the screen had maximum brightness.

The Nokia 5 passed the bend test, with flying colours, reaffirming Nokia's focus on hardware durability even after HMD Global acquired the smartphone brand last year. The YouTube channel has previously performed similar durability tests for the Nokia 3, Nokia 8, and Nokia 6, and Nokia 3310.

Nokia 5 Specifications

The Nokia 5 features a 5.2-inch display with a HD resolution of 720x1280 pixels. The smartphone is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC and 2GB RAM. The Nokia 5 sports a 13-megapixel rear camera sensor with LED flash. It also has an 8-megapixel front camera for selfies and video calling. The smartphone is based on a stock version of Android 7.1.1 Nougat and a beta build for Android 8.0 Oreo was recently rolled out.
