With just 2 days to go before the unveiling of new Lumia smartphones at a combined event hosted by Nokia and Microsoft in New York, reports have emerged of Finnish handset maker testing another phone codenamed Glory.

The Verge has learned that 'Glory' will be a successor to the Lumia 610 and will run on Windows Phone 7.8. Current details for the device are rather thin but include a 4-inch display, 800MHz processor and 256MB RAM. There is no word on pricing or availability either. Whether 'Glory' makes an appearance at the September 5 event remains to be seen.

Windows Phone 7.8, as you would recall, is Microsoft's planned update for existing Windows Phone 7.5 devices. With the phones set to miss out on the planned Windows Phone 8 update, Windows Phone 7.8 is expected to bring new features like Wi-Fi tethering, additional camera functionality and more. This, however, is the first we've heard of new devices featuring Windows Phone 7.8.

With Windows Phone 8 adding several new features like 'proper' multi-tasking, over-the-air updates, multi-core processor support and IE 10, we don't think 'Glory' or other Windows Phone 7.8 running launches will be well received.

Whether 'Glory' features on Wednesday or not, Nokia is all set to launch at least two smartphones codenamed 'Arrow' and 'Phi' as we reported earlier. The event may also witness the launch of a new tablet from Nokia.
