  • Poco F1’s latest beta update adds 960fps slow-mo video recordings
  • The update brings a new Super Low-Light Mode too
  • There’s no date on when this update is expected to roll out to everyone

The Poco F1 is now receiving a MIUI update for beta testers, which adds the promised 960fps slow-mo recording feature to the smartphone. This is being rolled out as part of the MIUI 8.12.4 beta update for the Poco F1. Once the beta testing period is over, Xiaomi is expected to roll out the update for all Poco F1 users, although there is no fixed date for that just yet.

In this MIUI beta update, Poco F1 (Review) also gets a low-light mode in the camera settings, according to FoneArena. The report states that this mode is called Super Low-Light Mode and it takes eight photos at different exposures and merges them into a better photograph. This may sound a lot like Google's excellent Night Sight feature for the Pixel 3, but it remains to be seen if the results on the Poco F1 are as spectacular. In case you are interested in improving the picture quality of the Poco F1's camera, you might want to check out the ported Google Camera app on the smartphone.

As of now, the Poco F1 supports slow-motion video recordings at 120fps and 240 fps. With the beta software, it can do that at 960fps. According to the test notes mentioned in the aforementioned report, the Poco F1 also has revamped the Optimize The Apps sections under Settings. The download size of the MIUI 8.12.4 update is reportedly 184MB.

The Poco F1 is powered by Snapdragon 845, the chipset of choice of the current generation of flagship phones, and starts at Rs. 20,999. The smartphone is going to be available at a huge discount in an upcoming Flipkart sale that starts December 6.

Xiaomi Poco F1 looks great value for the price, but is there a catch? We discussed this on Orbital, our weekly technology podcast, which you can subscribe to via Apple Podcasts or RSS, download the episode, or just hit the play button below.
