  • The Android 7.1.1 Nougat update brings June Android security patch

In November last year, Sony started pushing the Android 7.0 Nougat update to its premium line of smartphones. The Sony Xperia X and Xperia X Compact got the Nougat update in December and now users report the company is rolling out Android 7.1.1 Nougat to these devices. As per a report, the Android 7.1.1 Nougat is being released to most of the Xperia X and Xperia X Compact users along with the June Android security patch update.

According to Xperia Blog, the new update for Sony Xperia X and Xperia X Compact brings Android 7.1.1 Nougat through a new build number 34.3.A.0.194. It also comes with the latest June Android security patches for Xperia X and Xperia X Compact. It is not clear whether the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update is rolling out globally.

The Android 7.1.1 Nougat update brings a number of features such as app shortcuts, support for circular app icons, keyboard image insertion, new emojis, and more. However, a few Xperia X and Xperia X Compact owners report that the app shortcuts feature doesn't seem to be working on the handsets. Some other features like the clock widget also appear to be missing. There is a possibility that Sony may have chosen to do away with these features as Android versions customised by OEMs do not always have the exact Android features as packed in Google's Pixel and Nexus smartphones.
