Obi Octopus S520 Review

  • Good
  • Good specifications and performance
  • Decent value for money
  • Simple Android skin and minimal software bloat
  • Bad
  • Bland design and ugly sticker
  • Screen flicker problem
  • Mediocre battery life

Much has been made of the fact that Obi Mobiles is backed by former Apple CEO John Sculley, with some reports going to the extent of suggesting he is on a mission to destroy his former employer. The real story is more like this: Scully is the co-founder of Inflexionpoint, a Singapore-based company that is promoting and investing in Obi Mobiles. The idea is to start out in India and learn everything possible before expanding to other emerging markets.

Obi Octopus S520 Summary

This phone's primary claim to fame is that the company that launched it, Obi, is backed by a former Apple CEO. Unfortunately, the device itself has nothing in common with Apple's products. It's a standard, mass-manufactured Chinese model which recycles a lot of the design elements of other devices we've seen. This phone lacks any interesting feature that would set it apart in the market, and is easily skippable. There are plenty of other models available with equal or better performance, build quality, cameras and battery life.
