Tata Docomo launches 'Stretch' prepaid data plans for GSM subscribers

Tata Docomo on Wednesday launched data plans for prepaid GSM customers, offering an extended validity period for the price of a monthly recharge.

The recharge packages known as Stretch start at Rs. 136 and offer a 60-day validity at the price of 30 days, although the quantum of data offered will be slightly lower, the company said in a statement.

It said the recharges are made for consumers needing a data connection for communication rather than entertainment.

Stretch recharges is merely the first step," Tata Docomo Head Marketing Gurinder Singh Sandhu said.

On Wednesday, RComm announced hike of mobile call tariffs by up to 20 percent. It said it will hike voice prices starting April 25, the company said in a statement, to counter an increase in input costs and higher spectrum payments.

RComm said it would also raise headline call tariffs to 1.6 paise every second from 1.5 paise, it said in a statement on Tuesday.

Airtel on Monday increased mobile services rates of both Internet and calls under certain schemes, giving an indication of next round of tariff hikes in the industry.

The Airtel's website showed similar rates but it nowhere mentioned the date from which new tariff is applicable. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, which monitors mobile tariff at present, does not inform consumers about increase in mobile rates by service providers.
