Videocon has followed the lead of other operators in slashing the 2G data tariff by 90 percent.

Videocon Mobile Services customers in Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh will be able to use pay-as-you-go 2G data at rates of 1 paisa per 10KB, compared to 10 paisa per 10KB applicable earlier. This new data tariff will be applicable from first week of July onwards.

Commenting on the tariff revision, Mr. Arvind Bali, Director and CEO, Videocon Mobile Services said, "Videocon Mobile Services is known to offer the best value-for-money products at a price which is nearly twenty-five percent lower than the market rate. Always at the forefront of consumer centric initiatives which are motivated towards total consumer benefit, the brand seeks to pass on the advantage of the data price revision across the dynamic telecom circles it is present in."

Earlier, Airtel announced an identical 2G data tariff reduction, from 1 paisa per KB to 1 paisa per 10KB. Similarly, Idea declared a 90 percent reduction in 2G data tariff for pay-as-you-go plans, from 2 paisa per KB to 2 paisa per 10KB, and Vodafone announced a 80 percent reduction in 2G data tariff. Vodafone's new tariff is 2 paisa per 10KB, compared to 10 paisa per 10 KB earlier.

Interestingly, the reductions in tariff from all operators is applicable in select circles only, in a bid to increase data usage in these regions.

"This 90% tariff reduction will help increase data penetration across segments, which will translate into stronger benefits for the brand and will help us engage more subscribers in coming times," Bali concluded.
