Highlights
  • Google Play Protect is rebranded version of Verify Apps
  • The feature was earlier visible through settings section
  • The company announced Google Play Protect at I/O 2017

Last month, Google Play Protect feature started showing up for Android users in the settings menu of their respective devices but we mentioned that the feature might take some time before it starts showing up in the Google Play store. Now, the feature has started showing up for some users on the Google Play store as well.

In the My apps & games section on the Google Play app, you will now be able to see the Google Play Protect banner under the Updates tab that depicts that the apps have been verified for safety. With the Google Play Protect feature in Google Play, users will additionally get the option to manually check if their apps have certain issues and are safe for use or not. We see the new interface and branding on Android O and Android 7.1.1 Nougat, though users on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow aren't seeing it yet.

The rebranded version of Verify Apps has already shown up for some users but is being rolled out to users in phases as usual. The Google Play Protect feature, which can be found on Android devices through the settings menu, notifies the users about the apps that are considered by the search giant as malicious or unsafe. It automatically scans the apps in the background and but users can also manually ask the feature to start looking for abnormal app behaviour.

To recall, Google announced the Google Play protect feature at I/O 2017 earlier this year and said that it essentially notifies users when a particular app starts behaving abnormally or is considered unsafe.
