Instagram recently revealed it had 800 million monthly users, making it the second largest social media platform in the world. First remains Facebook, which enjoys 2.07 billion monthly users across the globe. Instagram keeps adding new features, the freshest one being the questions sticker, and now it seems the company has finally brought support for adaptive icons as well. Furthermore, the company has also confirmed it is testing a new way to make verifying accounts an easy process, and has made the verification form available in-app.

Instagram finally brings support for adaptive icons with the latest 55.0.0.0.33 alpha Android update. What this means is that your icon shape will change to what your device supports. Earlier, the Instagram icon stuck to the square-shaped design, irrespective of what the device supported on default. Now, the company has added support for it to be more adaptive to devices. This update may take some time to reach all devices, and you can download it from APK Mirror from here, if you wish to implement it right away.

Separately, Australian media Nine.com reports that Instagram is working on a way to let the general public apply for the blue tick verification badge easily. The publication reports Instagram confirmed the local rollout, with a spokesperson adding, "This new feature will allow our community the opportunity to apply for verification themselves, and understand the process behind getting verified on Instagram. We believe opening up verification to the public will also work towards safeguarding our community."

The company is adding a public form inside the app, in the Settings menu, for users to apply for verification. This form is live for iOS users in Australia for now, and a few other unmentioned countries. It looks to roll it out to Android users in these regions in a few weeks. However, no fixed timeline has been announced for its commercial global rollout. For these select users, a new Request Verification option is showing up in Settings. The verification page asks for a Photo ID, full name and username. Once you submit this, Instagram will check your profile, according to the parameters the company has set, and will ascertain whether the user is worthy of the blue tick or not. The report notes that Instagram will assess the profile for notability, authenticity, uniqueness, and completeness.
