A report in AllThingsD had earlier indicated that Twitter is all set to launch a brand-new music app. The report quotes "sources familiar with the matter" to say that the launch may happen as early as Friday, though the story was later updated to reveal that another source had confirmed "the app will indeed launch this weekend at Coachella, though not necessarily on Friday." Coachella is a music festival that is being held this year across two weekends, from April 12-14 and April 19-21.

The new music app is reportedly based on We Are Hunted's technology, which Twitter is said to have acquired last year, though an official announcement was made by both parties only on Thursday.

According to AllThingsD, the music app will analyse personalised signals like the artists you follow on Twitter and suggest music accordingly. Users will be able to listen to clips from inside the app using third-party services like iTunes and Soundcloud. The app will all feature music videos powered by Vevo, the music video service owned by Universal Music and Sony.
