Sony is making it easier and more convenient for users to manage their smartphones. The Japanese smartphone manufacturer has released an application for Windows PCs called Xperia Companion that allows users to easily install apps on the smartphone and perform other operations such as resetting the phone using a computer.

If you own a desktop or PC with Windows 7 or higher installed on it, you can install Xperia Companion and take care of a number of things on your phone. The description of the app suggests that it is compatible with Xperia Z3 with no word on support for other smartphones. XperiaBlog however reports that the Xperia Companion application is compatible with other Xperia devices as well including the Xperia Z5, Xperia Z3+, and Xperia Z4 Tablet, as well as smartphones in the Z3 series.

Xperia Companion offers three features: the ability to browse files on your smartphone, perform software updates, and something called "software repair", which will allow you to wipe your phone and perform a clean installation.

"Xperia Companion is a computer tool for easy and safe software updates of your Xperia device. Use it to update to the latest software version, or to reset your device by clearing the content," the app description reads. "You can also browse, transfer and organize your files. Over time, more applications will be available from Sony or your network operator."

It's not known exactly when Sony released this application. At any rate, you can download the application for your Windows PC from the company's website. There doesn't seem to be a OS X counterpart of Xperia Companion available yet.
