The Nikon 1 J family is an acclaimed range of cameras by Japanese camera maker. Nikon has now launched the latest offering for the line-up - the Nikon 1 J4. Like its successor, the Nikon 1 J3, the Nikon 1 J4 is a mirrorless, interchangeable lens camera that boasts of a slew of features up its sleeve. While there are no details on the launch and the pricing, the camera will be available in four colours with an optional underwater housing case. It is important to note that the J3 was available at $600 (roughly Rs 36,000).

Coming back to the Nikon 1 J4, the camera is backed by a 18.4-megapixel, super high-speed AF CMOS sensor, with no low-pass filter, and the latest Expeed 4A image-processing engine. Nikon claims it has the "world's fastest, continuous shooting sensor". Nikon also claims that the camera supports the high-speed shooting with a rate of 20fps in the burst mode and up to 60 fps when the focus is locked. In addition, it has 105 focus points with phase-detection AF and 171 focus points with contrast-detect AF.

Other features of the Nikon 1 J4 include a 3-inch TFT LCD 1037k-dot touchscreen, built-in Wi-Fi, full-HD recording at 1920x1080/60p, and a ISO range of 100-12800. Users can also use the auto image, in-movie capture for capturing still shots in a movie.

Interestingly, the Nikon 1 J4 is slimmer than its predecessor the Nikon 1 J3. Nikon has also chosen to forego the standard SD cards on the Nikon 1 J4, which uses a microSD card slot instead. This might raise eyebrows given that SD cards are a norm nowadays for point and shoot, mirrorless, bridge, and entry-level DSLR cameras.

Nikon has also released the WP-N3 waterproof carry case as a side accessory for the Nikon 1 J4, and the SB-N10 underwater speedlight. The two accessories offer a wide range of features that make it easily compatible with the Nikon 1 J4. Further information regarding the camera can be found on the Nikon site.
