About Derry Girls Season 1 TV Series
"In Norther Ireland's Derry city, four spirited girls and a boy (Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Louisa Harland, Nicola Coughlan, Jamie-Lee O'Donnell, Dylan Llewellyn) navigate through their teenage years in a Catholic school, as the highly volatile political unrest and cultural divides play in the background.
The show touches upon the actual events of the Troubles (ethno-nationalist conflicts) and the Northern Ireland peace process, including the 1994 IRA ceasefire announcement, the 1995 visit to Northern Ireland of President Bill Clinton and First Lady Hillary Clinton; and the Good Friday referendum of 1998.
