Features of the game include a new 4K presentation, Xbox Live support, LAN play support, new orchestral soundtrack, campaign narration, and custom campaign mode. Global multiplayer beta will be opened up on January 29.

After promising an October 2017 launch, Microsoft has now shifted the new launch date of Age of Empires: Definitive Edition to February 2018. In this remaster of the original classic, Microsoft has added several new features. Here is the full list of changes.

  • Completely rebuilding assets for a modern 4K presentation
  • Letting you play online with Xbox LIVE (in addition to LAN play)
  • Re-recorded the original soundtrack with a new orchestral score
  • Adding campaign narration for every mission
  • Enhancing the campaign and scenario editor, which allows anyone to make original custom campaigns for the game online.

Microsoft claims that it has retained the original gameplay experience while providing improvements around it in order to fill up the gaps. The company also announced Age of Empires IV back in August; the game is yet to see the light of day.
