It's barely been a month and half since Project CARS finally hit retail after many a delay. With developer Slightly Mad Studios promising a wealth of content for its recently released racing simulator, it has now also announced a sequel.

Aptly named Project CARS 2, the company's pitch page touts the game to have the largest track roster, a large number of motorsports, co-op career mode, and pro-esports racing among others. It will be crowdfunded like the last game and will be available for the PS4, Steam OS, Windows, and Xbox One.

Announcing the news on its blog, the company said, "With an existing schedule of on demand content already underway to continue providing Project CARS with fresh new features, updates, and great things to play with throughout the year, Slightly Mad Studios now turns its attention to the future with the announcement of the continuation of the franchise with Project CARS 2. And once again, the sequel will be created, tested, and ultimately approved by you - the gamers - through the WMD Portal crowd-funding platform."

Perks for backers range from a Michelin-starred dinner with the Head of Slightly Mad Studios plus all costs covered at a luxury hotel in London and a luxury weekend itinerary including use of a Ferrari 458 Spider for GBP 10,000 to a digital standard edition version of Project CARS 2 (Windows only) along with an avatar and wallpaper for GBP 50.

Considering the response and apparent success of Project CARS, it seems a little perplexing to take to crowdfunding the second time around. And with a rather steep entry fee at GBP 50 we wonder how many would bother. Nonetheless, the company also listed the minimum PC specifications you need to run the game. They are as follows:

  • CPU - 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400, 3.0GHz AMD Phenom II X4 940
  • Graphics - DirectX 11 graphics card such as Nvidia GTX 260, ATI Radeon HD 5770
  • Memory - 4GB RAM, 1GB VRAM
  • OS - 64-bit Windows Operating System
  • Network - Continuous Internet connection
  • Software - Steam
