Highlights
  • This feature will go live for those in the Xbox Insider Program soon
  • For the Xbox One S, it will be limited to video playback
  • It could result in better image quality in games on the Xbox One X

The Xbox One X and Xbox One S will get support for 1440p displays. What this means is, the Xbox One X will be able to deliver better image quality on 1440p through supersampling. At the moment supersampling on the Xbox One X was restricted to 1080p which meant those with 1440p screens get a lower than native resolution which isn't the best use of their hardware.

As for the Xbox One S, it's likely that any improvements at 1440p would be limited to video playback according to a report on Neowin. At the moment, this feature is being planned for limited release via the Xbox Insider program.

"Many questions recently around the timing of our 1440p support. Those of you in our early preview ring should be pleasantly surprised very soon if you have an Xbox One S or Xbox One X," tweeted Kevin Gammill, Microsoft's Xbox Platform Partner Group Program Manager.

After a period of testing, it's safe to say the 1440p support should be rolled out to the public soon enough. Though given that Microsoft seems to be happy with the adoption of 4K displays even in developing markets like India, it will be interesting to see how many really benefit from this move.
