Google on Wednesday added a new section to its Google Trends service that allows users to easily discover what's 'Trending on YouTube'.

Visiting the Google Trends page, users will see the 'Trending on YouTube' section with a list of up to 200 trending videos. The new section is accessible to all, but for now it shows videos that are trending in the US. Google says that it will expand the feature soon.

"With the constant flux, it's not easy to stay on top of what's got the Internet watercooler buzzing, but that's about to change. Starting today, you can try out a new way to see hundreds of the latest trending videos on YouTube," said Google on a Google+ post.

On a different note, a study from last month suggested that videos on Facebook are fast catching up with YouTube in terms of number of shares and the social networking site may overtake YouTube in video sharing through its News Feed soon.

An analysis based on 20,000 Facebook pages and 180,000 posts over one year found that Facebook is now a real threat to YouTube in terms of video consumption.

"The content marketers are directly uploading video content to Facebook, meaning that Facebook is retaining the traffic at the expense of YouTube," reported Socialbakers, a social media analytics company, on its website. "This is a big deal for YouTube. They could lose a big percent of their distribution," Jan Rezab, CEO of Socialbakers, was quoted as saying.
