Twitter has started displaying names of websites and links to their pages if they've embedded a tweet, just below that particular tweet, for some users.

The development was first reported by The Verge which also quoted security expert Mikko Hypponen, who tweeted about the new feature with a screenshot of one of his tweet that was embedded by sites like Gawker and Crowdmap.

Through the feature, tweets that have been embedded on websites will sport a 'Embedded on these Websites' list just below the Retweets, Favourites and date and time stamps, mentioning the names of the sites and the headlines of their articles complete with links to them.

It appears that the feature is being tested by Twitter at the moment and has been rolled out only to select users as we were not able to see the list from one machine, but it showed up as described from another.

The feature will allow users to get perspective on tweets that have been embedded by websites and discover the complete picture. It will also incentivise websites to embed tweets instead of linking to them as the practice will help drive Web traffic.

It's worth pointing out that so far Twitter has not talked about the feature officially, although company CEO, Dick Costolo had earlier discussed plans to cut down noise during events and curate moments and media within events, making them easier to navigate.

Earlier this year, Twitter had rolled out an update for its embedded tweets feature that made it easier and faster to embed tweets. The update also made embedded tweets on websites look similar to how they appear on twitter.com. Fundamentally, the new embeds are better at displaying the Twitter card and as a result pictures, videos and article summaries look much better than before. The embedded tweets also started displaying live retweets and favourites count as well.
