Samsung last month announced the Milk VR video app for the Samsung Gear VR that brought free 360-degree video content to the headset. It seems YouTube is the next to catch up with 360-degree video content support.

The company has confirmed that it is working to add support for 360-degree videos. However, details related to the feature or rollout are limited at the moment.

A YouTube spokesperson has confirmed the news to both Engadget and Gizmodo saying that the feature will be rolling out in the "coming weeks."

Gizmodo quotes the YouTube spokesperson to say, "Ever wanted to get 360 perspectives on a video to see everything going on? That's why we're working to support 360- degree videos in the coming weeks."

Unfortunately, the official has not revealed any time frame for the release of the 360-degree video content support.

Introduction of the 360-degree videos on the platform will help users share videos with friends on YouTube that have been recorded with cameras such as Kodak SP360 and Bublcam among other supporting 360-degree video recording.

Last month, YouTube announced the start of the India rollout of the offline feature that allowed users to download videos to their Android device for later consumption even without usable network connectivity. YouTube's offline feature, which was announced last year alongside the Android One, is ad-supported and available for Android and iOS. The videos will be available for offline playback only through the YouTube app, and can be downloaded via mobile data or Wi-Fi.
