Acer has announced two new Chromebook laptops on Wednesday, C910 and C740. These are Acer's second and third Chromebook models this year after the 15-inch Chromebook it launched during CES 2015. Acer says that both the models are aimed for educational purpose.

What makes them education-focused? They're built to withstand daily damage, says Acer. Both the laptops feature shells that can withstand up to 60kg of pressure, corners that can withstand drops from 1.5 feet, and reinforced hinges for increased durability.

The new Acer Chromebooks will hit the shelves in February this year. While the Acer C740 starts at $259.99 (roughly Rs. 16,000) , the Acer C910 starts at $299.99 (roughly Rs. 18,450). Out of the two, the Acer C910 also features a 15.6-inch display while the C740 sports an 11.6-inch display.

The Acer C910, besides a larger screen, also comes in higher full-HD screen resolution display option besides the conventional 1366x768 pixels resolution, as per Engadget. The Chrome OS-based laptop is only available with 4GB of RAM but with 16GB or 32GB inbuilt storage option. The Acer C740 on the other hand is available in two RAM configurations - 2GB and 4GB - but with only 16GB inbuilt storage. Also, both the Chromebook models come with Intel Broadwell-based Celeron or Core i3 processor options.

It is worth mentioning that the Acer C740 would not replace the C720 Chromebook that was introduced in India in 2013 and was later launched in a refreshed version with Core i3 processor in July. The laptop features almost similar features like seen in C720, however, the C740 is said to be the education focused variant.

Acer earlier this month launched its new Chromebook series laptop, the Chromebook 15, at CES 2015. The model was the first Chromebook by the firm to feature a 15.6-inch display. The laptop is available in different RAM, inbuilt storage and screen resolution options.
