Lenovo Launches Financing Scheme for PC Buyers in Punjab

Leading personal computer player Lenovo on Wednesday announced the launch of a financing support scheme to help consumers, especially youth, buy computers and laptops.

"As part of the initiative, Lenovo is providing an end-to-end package to make computers more accessible to youth across these markets. This includes an attractive finance scheme, Internet access and huge-scale promotion to drive awareness," said company's Director- Home and Small Business, Shailendra Katyal in Chandigarh on Wednesday.

Under this initiative, Lenovo is offering financing support on laptops where consumers can own a computers with downpayments starting as low as Rs. 3,000 and the rest in interest free EMIs.

Katyal said India's computer penetration is currently at 10 percent and is one of the lowest compared to other developing countries like Vietnam (16 percent), South Africa (18 percent), Turkey (49 percent) and Malaysia (64 percent).

"As the global PC leader, we want to address the problem of computer penetration in the country. Lenovo has seen success in driving initiatives of this nature in large, emerging markets such as China and we want to replicate this in India. We understood the consumers key-barriers towards computer adoption in India and designed a program to address them," he said.

This programme from Lenovo is in sync with the larger 'Digital India' programme that aims at transforming India into a digitally empowered society, he said.

Given its rank among the top five States/Union Territories of the country for high percentage of working age and youth population, Chandigarh and the rest of Punjab has been chosen as one of the first few regions to launch the initiative, he said.

The company has already rolled out this initiative in states like Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, and plan to roll this out in the rest of India too.
