Post the success of Samsung Galaxy Note series, every company is looking at having an offering in this segment. Seems like the Taiwanese smartphone maker Acer too does not want to be left out and is gearing up to launch a phablet.

Unwiredview.com via Focus Taiwan reports that the company is planning to launch their first phablet device at Computex that is slated for June 2013. While speaking to Focus Taiwan, Jim Wong, Corporate President of Acer said, "mobile devices larger than 5-inches that still can be held with one hand are becoming very popular among women and elder citizens".

Acer for now has not shared any specifications details in regards to their forthcoming 5-inch smartphone but indicated that it will have "special features size, camera and software".

The Taiwanese smartphone has also indicated that the company will be launching another phablet with "big upgrades" by the end of 2013 or perhaps beginning of 2014.

It is noteworthy, that Acer in the past two years has not been too bullish about its smartphone business. The company is currently offering only a handful of smartphones in select markets. The company has recently launched Liquid C1 smartphone, which is powered by Intel's Atom Z2420 chipset. It is a single-core processor that clocks at a speed of 1.2GHz. The Acer Liquid C1 features a 4.3-inch screen with a display of 960x540 pixels. The other specifications of the smartphone include 4GB of internal storage, microSD card slot, 8-megapixel rear camera and 0.3-megapixel front camera. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, GPS, Bluetooth, Micro-USB. Acer Liquid C1 runs on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich)
