Acer Liquid Jade Z, Liquid Z220, and Liquid Z520 Launched at MWC

Acer has launched three new Liquid-series Android smartphones - the Liquid Jade Z, Liquid Z220, and Liquid Z520 at MWC 2015.

The Taiwanese company has announced that the Acer Liquid Jade Z will be available starting March at EUR 199 (Rs. 13,750 approximately) while the Acer Liquid Z220 will also start retailing in March at EUR 89 (Rs. 6,150 approximately). The Acer Liquid Z520 will be available starting April and will retail at EUR 109 (Rs. 7,500 approximately). Unfortunately, the company has not revealed specific details about availability of the three new smartphones.

The Acer Liquid Jade Z features LTE (Cat. 4 support) connectivity and the company touts it brings "premium features to the mainstream." It features a 5-inch HD (720x1280 pixels) IPS OGS display and also sports Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for protection. It comes with Zero Air Gap technology that Acer claims can reduce unwanted reflections. The handset also features Read Mode that eliminates blue-light emissions from the image processing engine to make it easier on the eyes.

Under the hood, the Liquid Jade Z is powered by a 64-bit quad-core MediaTek (unspecified) processor coupled with 1GB of RAM. There is 8GB of built-in storage, with support for expandable storage via microSD card (unspecified maximum storage). The Liquid Jade Z features DTS Studio Sound and supports 24-bit Hi-res audio.

The Android 4.4 KitKat-based Liquid Jade Z can be upgraded to Android 5.0 Lollipop; though there is no word on rollout of the update. Other specifications include 13-megapixel autofocus rear camera with LED flash and f/1.8 aperture while there is also a 5-megapixel front camera. There is a 2300mAh battery. The Liquid Jade Z measures 7.9mm thick and weighs 110 grams.

The Acer Liquid Z220 and Liquid Z520, on other hand, are budget handsets featuring new design pattern that has been inspired by Thai silk with silver pyramid mid-frame.

Out of three Liquid series smartphones, only the Acer Liquid Z220 runs Android 5.0 Lollipop out-of-the-box. The Liquid Z520 runs Android 4.4 KitKat. The Liquid Z220 features a 4-inch WVGA (480x800 pixels) display, while the Liquid Z520 comes with a 5-inch FWVGA (480x854 pixels).

The Liquid Z220 is powered by a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor clocked at 1.2GHz coupled with 1GB of RAM. There is 8GB of built-in storage which is expandable via microSD card. While the Liquid Z520 is backed by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor (unspecified chipset) with 1GB of RAM.

There is a 5-megapixel rear camera with 89-degree wide view angle lens and a 2-megapixel front camera on the Liquid Z220. The Liquid Z520 sports an 8-megapixel autofocus rear camera which the company touts is "a voice-activated camera." It also sports a 2-megapixel front-facing camera.

Unfortunately, the company has not revealed battery and SIM (single or dual-SIM) details for the Acer Liquid Jade Z, Liquid Z220, and Liquid Z520 smartphones.
