Asus has announced the Android 4.4 KitKat update for its two-year old PadFone 2 smartphone-tablet hybrid. Unfortunately, the software update for the Asus PadFone 2 is not available OTA (over-the-air) and can only be downloaded via the company's official website.

The support page at Asus site lists the steps for the update of the PadFone 2 with different SKUs. The Android 4.4 KitKat update is 925MB in size and brings the company's ZenUI to the PadFone 2. The support page clearly notes that the Android 4.4 KitKat update will reset the device.

Asus launched the PadFone 2 smartphone-tablet hybrid in 2012, and it comes with a PadFone Station. Specifications include a 4.7-inch HD Super IPS+ display; 13-megapixel rear camera; front-facing 1.2-megapixel camera; 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor; 2GB of RAM, and 2140mAh battery. The PadFone 2 dock station comes with 10.1-inch display sporting a 1,280x800 pixels resolution and packs a 5000mAh battery.

The Taiwanese giant at Computex this year launched a new PadFone smartphone-tablet hybrid dubbed PadFone S, which is said to be the global version of the 5-inch Asus PadFone X, which fits into an 8.9-inch tablet dock.

The PadFone S smartphone features a 5-inch full-HD display and is powered by a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor alongside 2GB of RAM. There is a 13-megapixel rear camera onboard, while the smartphone also features a 2-megapixel front camera. It runs Android 4.4 KitKat out-of-the-box. The smartphone is backed by a 2300mAh battery. Much like its other PadFone devices, the PadFone S comes with a tablet docking station, which in this case features an 8.9-inch full-HD (720x1280) display. The tablet dock packs a 4990mAh battery.
