DxOMark, an image quality-rating website, which until now rated Sony Xperia Z5 as the best camera smartphone, has put Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ on the same position as well.

As per DxOMark's latest report the website, Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ scored 87 points under the mobile photo section and 85 points under mobile video section. The smartphone overall received 87 points - same as Sony Xperia Z5. It is worth mentioning that the website gave Xperia Z5 88 points under the mobile photo section and 86 for the mobile video section. The tests are based on seven areas namely Exposure and contrast, Colour, Autofocus, Texture, Noise, Artefacts, and Flash/Stabilisation.

For those unaware, Samsung ships its Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 Edge+, and Galaxy Note 5 either with a Sony IMX240 camera sensor or with the home-brewed Isocell camera sensor. Sony on the other hand ships its Xperia Z5 with Exmor RS CMOS sensor. The website however, has not detailed which camera sensor the Gaalaxy S6 Edge+ review unit featured.

The Sony Xperia Z5's camera is one of the highlights of the smartphone. It features a 1/2.3-inch Exmor RS for mobile 23-megapixel sensor and F/2.0 G lens. Sony at the launch had claimed to have designed the camera inside its new flagship using the same technology that's seen in its Alpha range of interchangeable lens cameras.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ features 16-megapixel rear camera with f/1.9 aperture and optical image stabilisation, apart from 5-megapixel front-facing cameras.

While Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ tops the list, its smaller sibling namely the Galaxy S6 Edge falls at second position along with the Galaxy Note 5. Both have been given 86 overall points by DxOMark. Apple iPhone 6s Plus, Google Nexus 6P, and Motorola Droid Turbo 2 are tied in third position with 84 overall points.
