It is not a secret that Samsung boasts some of the best smartphone displays on its flagship devices. Considering that the company introduced 'Infinity Display' with its newly launched Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ smartphones, there was some curiosity regarding the quality and performance of these displays. However, any doubts can now be put to rest as well-known display-testing firm DisplayMate has declared that the Samsung Galaxy S8 comes with the 'best performing smartphone display' available in market. The firm also gave the phone its highest-ever 'A+' grade as well.

Firstly coming to specifications of the display, the Samsung Galaxy S8 features a 5.8-inch QHD+ (1440x2960 pixels) Super AMOLED display while the Galaxy S8+ sports a 6.2-inch QHD+ (1440x2960 pixels) Super AMOLED display. As mentioned earlier, company has termed these as Infinity Displays, and are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

DisplayMate found that the display on Galaxy S8 can achieve a highest brightness of 1,020 nits, which provides it with better visibility in ambient light as well as high screen brightness required for HDR. Notably, the Galaxy S8 is the first smartphone that has been certified by the UHD Alliance for Mobile HDR Premium, which allows the Galaxy S8 to play the same 4K High Dynamic Range content produced for 4K UHD Premium TVs, DisplayMate pointed out.

In its report, the display-testing firm said that the phone comes with a larger native colour gamut with a new high saturation "Deep Red" OLED, which results in a very impressive 113 percent of DCI-P3 and 142 percent of sRGB / Rec.709 gamuts that also provide much better on-screen colours in high ambient light.

The front and back dual ambient light sensors on the Samsung Galaxy S8 offer significantly improved 'Automatic Brightness' settings while the Night Mode filter allows users to adjust the amount of blue light from the display, the firm pointed out in its report.

"A new display form factor with a taller height to width Aspect Ratio of 18.5: 9 = 2.05, which is larger than the 16 : 9 = 1.78 on the Galaxy S7 (and widescreen TVs) because the display now has the same overall shape as the entire phone. It is taller in Portrait mode and wider in Landscape mode. This provides extra space for Notifications and for multiple windows and content," DisplayMate said regarding the aspect ratio on the smartphone display.

Interestingly, previously Galaxy Note 7 was said to have the best smartphone display by DisplayMate before the device was discontinued by the company due to safety reasons.
