Reports indicate that the alleged larger variant of Apple's next iPhone, which is rumoured to come in two display sizes (5.5-inch and 4.7-inch model), might only be announced by the end of this year due to supply constraints.

G4Games cites a report from Taiwan's Commercial Times, which claims that the alleged iPhone 6 with 5.5-inch display will sport a 'super thin' profile and will pack battery cells that are 2mm in thickness, instead of the normal thick battery components.

However, the Taiwanese publication notes that the biggest challenge for Apple has been its battery cell suppliers, who have been unable to meet company's strong demand for the sleeker battery cells.

Further, the report speculates that the rumoured 5.5-inch iPhone 6 launch might be delayed to 2015 if the yield issues with special battery components are not resolved eventually.

Notably, the report suggests that the alleged 5.5-inch iPhone 6 model is being referred as "iPhone Air" by Apple suppliers; although the report clarifies that this moniker is not official.

Earlier, adding to the long list of leaks and rumours regarding Apple's next iPhone model; the smartphone's alleged battery design was pictured, indicating a larger handset with a bigger screen.

If the recent leaks and rumours turn out to be true, then Apple might finally enter the screen size battle with the launch of two iPhones rumoured to sport large screen sizes- 5.5-inch and 4.7-inch, and thereby cater to both phablet and smartphone consumers.

While the alleged high-end 5.5-inch iPhone model was previously reported to boast of a higher screen resolution at 1080x1920 pixels (full-HD) with a pixel density of 401ppi, the 4.7-inch model is said to pack a lower resolution screen at 750x1334 pixels with a pixel density of 326ppi.

However, all these leaks should be taken with a pinch of salt as Apple has not mentioned anything about the upcoming device and the leaks legitimacy remains questionable.
