A new smartphone dubbed Redmi 2 Pro has passed US FCC certification website. The listing hints that Xiaomi's upcoming entry into the US smartphone market will be sooner than later, but then again, not every device certified by the FCC ends up being launched in the US market.

The Redmi 2 Pro appears to be the US variant of a recently launched Xiaomi phone, the Redmi 2 Prime, launched in India back in August. It features almost identical specifications, except for network support.

The Xiaomi Redmi 2 Pro, as per the FCC documents (via Liliputing) runs MIUI 6 out-of-the-box. However, this is likely to change as the Chinese smartphone maker has already started rolling out its MIUI 7 to users. The handset is also seen featuring 4G LTE (supports bands 2,4 and 7), 3G, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n (2.4GHz) connectivity features as well.

The Redmi 2 Pro is listed to sport a 4.7-inch HD (720x1280 pixels) resolution display and to run on quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 SoC (four Cortex A53 cores clocked up to 1.2GHz), clubbed with Adreno 306 GPU. Furthermore, the device is said to sport 2GB RAM as well. Other features mentioned are 16GB inbuilt storage, and 2200mAh battery.

Xiaomi has been anticipated to launch in the US market for a while now. The company back in February announced it would enter the US market eventually, but would begin in a small way with the launch of accessories. This finally happened by May, with the company selling accessories in the US via its Mi.com portal. In July, Xiaomi's Hugo Barra said the company will strengthen its intellectual property portfolio before it makes its entry into the US market.

Over the week, two leaked images of the unannounced Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Pro also surfaced the Web. The handset is said to arrive in two variants. While one would house a fingerprint sensor on the back panel below the rear camera, the other variant would completely miss out on the particular feature. The Redmi Note 2 Pro is tipped to share the same specifications as the Redmi Note 2. The only difference would be an inclusion of a fingerprint sensor and a metal build.
