Social networking giant Facebook's CEO Mark Zuckerberg has landed the top spot on Vanity Fair's annual New Establishment list which ranks movers and shakers across different industries.

Zuckerberg, 31, not only leads the pack, but also trumps a number of other Valley bigwigs including Uber CEO Travis Kalanick (No. 2), Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos (No. 3) and Apple's Tim Cook and Jony Ive (tied at No. 4). Unsurprisingly, tech ruled this year.

"Zuckerberg stands out as something of an elder statesman. He is far and away the youngest person ever to grab the top spot on the New Establishment list. He has not only proved himself as a brilliant entrepreneur; he may well become one of the great long-haul corporate leaders of the past half-century...

"The $240 billion (roughly Rs. 15,93,362 crores) company he scratched out of his dorm room at Harvard is apparently just his first step toward world domination in the realm of social networking," said Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter in a statement.

Facebook is already the second most-trafficked website in the US and worldwide, but its CEO wants even more. The social network introduced Instant Articles, an initiative that has Facebook hosting optimised content from publishers including the New York Times, NBC, BuzzFeed, BBC News, and the Guardian.

And while Facebook already has 1.5 billion users, it is on a quest to bring the Internet to emerging markets with Internet.org.
