The Google Plus app launched for the iPhone on 19th July and has already topped the list of free apps on Apple's App store. Even more impressive - this, despite the fact that Google Plus is still not open to all and is accessible on an invitation basis only. Google's newest social networking venture is all of 3 weeks old.

The Google Plus user base has grown from 10 million last week to about 18 million as of today.

Facebook till date remains the most downloaded app from Apple's App Store, but the credit for that, of course, goes to its massive 750 million user base.

Despite the app's popularity, it isn't perfect. You cannot use Google Plus' Hangout feature, which essentially lets you video chat with up to 10 friends even though the iPhone 4 has a front facing camera. The Circles feature that lets you drag and drop your contacts in the desktop version of the service is a mere listing on the phone making it tedious to add multiple people to Circles.

Initially, when the app was launched, users complained that it was buggy and kept crashing but that problem seems to have been resolved by Google.

The Google Plus app is available on the Android Marketplace as a free app for your Android Smartphone as well.
