Acer Iconia A1 tablet with 7.9-inch display launched for $169

Acer has officially launched its 7.9-inch Iconia A1 tablet at a press event organised in New York on Friday. At this event, the company also showcased new laptops including the Acer Aspire R7.

Acer Iconia A1 features a 7.9-inch display with a 1024X768 resolution. The tablet is powered by 1.2GHz quad-core MediaTek processor along with 1GB of RAM. Acer Iconia A1 will offer an option of either 8GB internal storage or 16GB.

For camera, there is a 5-megapixel rear facing camera and a VGA one in the front. The rear camera is also capable of recording 1080pixel full-HD videos. The tablet is powered by a 3,250mAh battery and runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) out of the box.

The 8GB variant will cost $169, which translates to Rs. 9,100 while the 16GB version will be priced approximately $199 or Rs. 10,700.

With the help of this tablet, Acer is expected to compete head-on with Google Nexus 7 and Apple iPad mini.

This tablet has been in the news for the last month. As a matter of fact, it was previewed by Tablet.bg a few days ago.

Acer is already offering its Iconia B1 tablet (Review | Pictures) with Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) in India carrying a price tag of Rs. 7,999. This tablet was unveiled at CES 2013. It sports a 7-inch display with 1024x600 resolution and is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core Mediatek processor (MTK 8317T) alongside 512MB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. It features a microSD card to expand the available storage by another 32GB. Connectivity options on the Acer Iconia B1 include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, GPS, Bluetooth 4.0 and Micro-USB. A 0.3-megapixel front camera is thrown-in for good measure.

The company is also offering a 16GB version of Acer Iconia B1 tablet in Europe, but this version is yet to make its way to India.

Acer had earlier set a forecast of shipping five million tablets in 2013. However, buoyed by the performance of its Iconia B1, the company has recently revised this target to 10 million units.
