Asus Fonepad 7 (FE171CG), MeMO Pad 8 (ME581CL) Launched in India

Asus has launched two tablets in India, the Fonepad 7 (FE171CG) - which was officially listed in January - and the MeMO Pad 8 (ME581CL) - which was announced during Computex 2014.

The Asus Fonepad 7 (FE171CG) is priced at Rs. 10,999 and the Asus MeMO Pad 8 (ME581CL) is priced at Rs. 19,999. Both tablets will be exclusively available from Flipkart.

Commenting on the launch, Peter Chang, Regional Head, South Asia & Country Manager System Business Group, ASUS India said, "These products are set to appease the present day computing needs of the masses. They are very handy and light weight and yet loaded with features which not only keep its users connected but also engaged via fast connectivity and speedy response time. Both the tablets are an assimilation of high end technology and superlative design perfection."

The Asus Fonepad 7 (FE171CG) is a dual-SIM (GSM+GSM) voice-calling tablet that runs Android 4.4 KitKat with ZenUI on top. It features a 7-inch WSVGA (1024x600 pixels) resolution IPS display with anti-fingerprint coating and 178-degree wide viewing angle. It packs Intel's Atom Z2520 processor (1MB Cache, 2 cores, 4 threads, base frequency of 1.2GHz) coupled with 2GB RAM.

The Fonepad 7 (FE171CG) packs a rear 8-megapixel camera and a front 2-megapixel camera. The 16GB inbuilt storage is expandable via microSD card (up to 64GB).

Connectivity options on the Asus Fonepad 7 (FE171CG) include 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS/ A-GPS. The tablet packs a 3,950mAh battery, measures 110.6x196x7.9mm, and is available in Black and White colour options.

The MeMO Pad 8 (ME581CL), on the other hand, was launched in partnership with KIDDI and was touted to be the "world's lightest 8-inch LTE tablet", by Asus. At 299 grams the tablet runs on Android 4.4 KitKat out-of-the-box with company's latest intuitive Asus ZenUI on top.

The 8-inch Asus MeMO Pad 8 (ME581CL) features a full-HD 1920x1200 IPS display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. It is powered by a 64-bit Intel Atom Z3580 2.3GHz quad-core processor coupled with 2GB of RAM.

Camera options on the Asus MeMO Pad 8 (ME581CL) include a 5-megapixel rear shooter camera and a front 1.2-megapixel camera. The inbuilt storage is 16GB, which can be further expanded via microSD card (up to 32GB). Connectivity options on the tablet include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, and NFC. The 4350mAh battery on the device is rated to deliver up to 9 hours of battery life.
