Details related to Amazon's forthcoming Kindle Fire tablets have emerged in a report that sheds some light on the company's plans.

According to BGR, which cites 'trusted sources', Amazon is working on at least three new Kindle Fire tablets which are expected to launch before the holiday season this year.

The report says that Amazon will replace its 7-inch Kindle Fire entry-level tablet with a new version that features a higher resolution of 1280x800 pixels instead of the current 1024x600 pixels resolution, making it at par with the current Kindle Fire HD tablet in terms of pixel count. Meanwhile, the company will also upgrade its Kindle Fire HD tablet with a display that features a resolution of 1920x1200 pixels, with the size of the screen remaining at the current 7-inches, diagonally, as per the report.

The online publication adds that the Kindle Fire HD 8.9 tablet will also see an upgrade and will sport a 2560x1600 pixels display, a bump from the current 1920x1200 pixels. This will make the screen of the Kindle Fire HD's 8.9-inch version better than that of the Apple's current generation iPad at least in terms of the pixel density. The iPad's screen has a resolution of 2048x1536 pixels.

According to the report, the new models of the Kindle fire tablet will be lighter and feature a more angular design with a flat slope that meets the edges instead of the current design that has a curved slope. The corners of the tablets would not be rounded as well. The publication's sources also add that the power and volume buttons would not be placed on the side of the tablets but on the sloping area at the back but would not get pressed accidentally when the tablet lies on its back. It's worth pointing out that in the current design, the power and volume buttons are completely flush with the body, and are hard to locate while using the tablet.

The new generation tablets are said to be in pre-production and Amazon could change things partially or completely, when the tablets finally go into production, the report claims.

Amazon had introduced the Kindle Fire HD tablets in India in June.
