Samsung developing 13.3-inch Android, Windows RT dual-boot tablet: Report

Samsung has long been rumoured to be working on a 12.2-inch tablet, but it seems the South Korean major is working on tablets with even larger screens, a new report claims.

A Korean report quotes a Samsung Wireless Division official who allegedly shed some light on company's upcoming plans for tablet and smartphone segment. The Samsung official was said to have spilled the beans about Samsung's unnamed 13.3-inch tablet, revealing that it is in the works, and that Samsung is looking to seize the laptop and desktop PC market demand by such devices.

The Unwiredview speculates that the 13.3-inch tablet could be Samsung's first dual-boot tablet with Android / Windows RT options. As of now, not much detail about the unnamed 13.3-inch Samsung tablet has been revealed.

Further Samsung plans to ship about 42 million tablets by the end of 2013, which is 100 percent growth compared to the 20 million tablets it shipped last year, as per the Korean report. The Samsung's official attributed the growth to the number of Galaxy Note tablets ranging from 7 to 10.1-inch display at competitive prices.

Earlier on Tuesday, a report indicated that Samsung's alleged Galaxy Note 12.2-inch tablet will be going into mass production only by the end of 2013.

The report quoted sources from the Taiwan-based supply chain makers and claimed that Samsung has adopted a film-based capacitive touch solution, which is largely provided by China-based Shenzhen O-film Tech, for the rumoured Galaxy Note 12.2 tablet. Considering that the alleged Samsung Galaxy Note 12.2 tablet will be going for mass production later this year, the tablet could be expected to be introduced at Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January 2014.

Rumoured specifications of the alleged 12.2-inch Samsung tablet include a 12.2-inch display as the name suggests with a resolution of 2560x1600 pixels; a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor; 3GB of RAM; 32GB inbuilt storage; 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. The rumoured tablet is said to run Android 4.3 Jelly Bean out-of-the-box.
