  • Supply seems to be limited

PlayStation VR (PS VR) has got a permanent price cut in India. Retailers across the country have been informed of Sony of the new PS VR India price of Rs. 30,990. This is for the PS VR camera bundle which includes the PS VR headset, cables, demo disc, and most importantly, the PS4 camera needed for VR. This new price is in effect immediately and should be listed on sites such as Amazon, Flipkart, and Games The Shop soon enough. While PS VR is available for around Rs. 4,000 to 5,000 less via the grey market and parallel imports, some of which have found their way to Amazon's listings and don't have warranty in India. Something to keep in mind if you're looking to pick up PS VR now.

As for PS VR supply, we've been given to understand that initial quantities are scarce. Calling several stores in Mumbai, Delhi, and Begaluru revealed availability of PS VR in the low single digits, with most of them not having more than two units in stock. Gadgets 360 has reached out to Sony for comment and will update this story if we hear from the company.

Furthermore, none of them have been made aware of the time frame for availability of new PS VR bundles either, leading us to believe that this is a stock clearing exercise from Sony. No surprise since PS VR costs as much as a PS4 does and you need one to use PS VR to begin with.

Interestingly, this is the second price cut for PS VR in India. Last year Sony brought the price down from Rs. 41,990 to Rs. 37,990 for the same bundle. Now, it's taken it further with a Rs. 7,000 price cut. However, there's no new price in place for PS VR games. They maintain the same Rs. 1,999 to Rs. 2,499 price range. Which is not too bad when you consider most PS4 games go for Rs. 3,499 upwards.

In our PS VR review we noted that while comfortable, the mess of wires made it far from ideal, but considering the price of other headsets such as HTC Vive, it still is the cheapest way to experience VR and the price cut makes it all the more affordable, if you already own a PS4- which isn't getting a price cut in India just yet.
