PS5 and next Xbox specifications to rival Google Stadia? Some reliable sources believe so

It appears that the PS5 and next Xbox or whatever Sony and Microsoft decide to call their PS4 and Xbox One successors may counter Google Stadia in terms of pure specifications. According to Kotaku's Jason Schreier, the companies will rival what Google Stadia has to offer with PS5 and and next Xbox specifications to surpass Stadia's 10.7 teraflops. Considering that AMD is most likely supplying both GPU and CPU tech for the PS5 and next Xbox as well as Google Stadia's GPU, this shouldn't be too much of a problem. This isn't all. Schreier also claims that not as many game companies have access to next-gen developer kits as some would have us believe.

"Look, as I've been saying since roughly March 2018 (in this very thread), next-gen is coming in 2020. That Semiaccurate article saying 2018 (lol) got people's hopes up for 2019, but by now I hope it's clear that the PS5 ain't coming out this fall," Schreier posted on popular gaming forum, ResetEra.

"And, despite all the rumours about devkits being out (usually from rumourmongers who are wrong more often than not), the number of people briefed on next-gen is still very limited. Even within companies like, say, Dice, there'll be a small team of engineers who now have a rough idea of specs, and everyone else will know when they need to know. Not a lot of devs are disclosed on next-gen right now. In other words, don't expect much in the way of substantial leakage just yet."

Furthermore, he states that both Sony and Microsoft will be looking to go beyond what Google Stadia plans to offer in terms of performance.

"The only thing to know for sure is that both Sony and Microsoft are aiming higher than that '10.7 teraflops' number that Google threw out last week. (And, as has been reported, Microsoft's got a few things in the works.)"

The latest rumours indicate that the PS5 will start at $399 (around Rs. 28,500), same as the launch price of PS4 back in 2014, whereas the upcoming Xbox One successor will be released with a price-tag of $499 (around Rs. 35,600), again same as launch price of Xbox One with Kinect sensor. The Kinect-less variant, which was added later, was sold initially at $399 (around Rs. 28,500). Prior to the Stadia reveal, the PS5 and next Xbox rumoured specifications were as follows.

"The hardware is partially true," the post reads. "Storage is true. Raytracing is true. Lockhart is not streaming box. Xbox SoC codename is Anubis, check AMD's plan. MS AI is not a part of the hardware, in other words, never heard of TPU or ASIC like it. How to implement Raytracing? See GDC 2019. Why they make a decision like Lockhart? See GDC 2019. Why there still no DevKit? After GDC 2019."

While the ResetEra user was verified by the administration, it's best to take this information with a tonne of salt until we have official information.
