  • Rainbow Six Siege 2 is not in the works
  • This is because Ubisoft has a 10 year vision for Rainbow Six Siege
  • Rainbow Six Siege Year 3 sees eight new operators added to the game

Ubisoft’s tactical shooter Rainbow Six Siege won’t be getting a sequel anytime soon. This was revealed by the company during a panel at the 2018 Six Invitational.

The development team has said there’s no sequel planned for Rainbow Six Siege. It has an active player count of 27 million and there’s a 10 year vision for the game. Eventually, the goal is to see 100 operators (playable characters) in the game. It's a welcome move considering how expensive PC gaming has become of late.

Rainbow Six Siege Year 3 will see eight new operators. In addition to this, all of the game’s original 20 operators will be available in the standard edition. Also, all weapon attachments will be free and unlocked from the get go. Furthermore, new data centres for the game are being added in South Africa and South Europe.

Considering the game has seen a slew of improvements since its rocky 2015 launch and an active, rabid player base, it comes as no surprise that Ubisoft prefers to keep the game running for a decade instead of jettisoning what its built in favour of a new game.

However what this also means is, would we see Rainbow Six Siege on the next generation of consoles? With speculation surrounding the PS5 and the next Xbox, we won’t be surprised to see it launch alongside what Sony and Microsoft have in store for us.
