  • Red Dead Redemption 2 could be a prequel
  • A new trailer for the game showed off its protagonist
  • Actual gameplay would have been nice to see but was absent

Rockstar Games released a new trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2. Showing off a host of environments and characters, the trailer also highlighted the game's protagonist, Arthur Morgan. He's an outlaw in the Van der Linde gang.

The Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer also reaffirmed the Red Dead Redemption 2 release date of Spring 2018 for the PS4 and Xbox One. No mention of the PC or Nintendo Switch. Tragic considering that GTA V is rumoured for the Switch and has sold well enough on PC.

Nonetheless, the footage on display looked fantastic with some stellar character animations, lighting, and scenic vistas. Interestingly, it could be a prequel to Red Dead Redemption. Reason being, the trailer  appears to reference Dutch Van der Linde - one of the main villains of that game, who commits suicide towards the end of Red Dead Redemption. In Red Dead Redemption 2, Arthur Morgan is a part of is the Van der Linde gang.

What's interesting is that the footage was captured from a PS4, if a tweet from the official PlayStation account is to be believed. Considering how good it looks, it bodes well for the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X versions of the game.

Though give how little we've seen of Red Dead Redemption 2 since its initial reveal, more gameplay and its systems would have been welcome. Perhaps we'd see more at PlayStation Experience at the end of the year? Only time will tell.
