HP Slatebook PC Launched Alongside a Refreshed Chromebook PC

HP on Sunday lifted the wraps off the new 11.6-inch Chromebook , and most interestingly an Android-based machine with a clamshell form-factor - called the Slatebook PC. HP's cheapest yet variant of the Chromebook PC will retail at $249 (approximately Rs. 14,700) for the Wi-Fi model, but no specific availability has been mentioned. The HP Slatebook PC will be priced at $399 (approximately Rs. 23,580), and be available from August 6.

The Chromebook PC's 11.6-inch display, slightly larger than last year's Chromebook 11, has a resolution of 1366 x 768 and is powered by an unspecified Samsung processor. It is has a thickness of less than an inch and weighs around 1.22kg. It has a standard 16GB of storage and 2GB of RAM. HP states that it has a battery life of six hours and 25 minutes. The Chromebook PC will also come in different colours. Initial stock of Chromebook PCs will come in turquoise and white options.

Coming to the intriguing Android-based laptop, the HP Slatebook PC features a 14-inch touchscreen with a full-HD (1080p) screen. The Slatebook PC weighs about 1.7kg, is 16mm thick, and has 64GB of built-in storage (there is no word on expandable storage as of now). It runs on an Nvidia Tegra 4 processor, coupled with 2GB of RAM. It is expected to have a battery life of nine hours. HP promises that it has added tools which will help in scaling Android apps to the size of the larger screen.

Talking about the Slatebook PC, Mike Nash, Vice President at HP said, "It's in a very new category. Customers told us they spend a lot of time on mobile applications".

Both the laptops are expected to be shown at Computex this week in Taipei.
