  • Acer, Asus, and HP have signed on to make these BFGDs
  • Exact specifications and price have yet to be announced

At CES 2018Acer, HP, and Asus partner Nvidia to make Big Format Gaming Displays (BFGDs). These are 65-inch 4K 120Hz HDR displays with built-in Nvidia Shield - the company's bespoke streaming hardware.

“PC gamers expect high performance and instant response times, but, until now, they’ve been largely limited to traditional desktop displays,” said Matt Wuebbling, head of GeForce marketing at Nvidia. “BFGDs change that. With Nvidia’s latest technology built into these new displays, PC gamers can now experience their favorite titles in all the low-latency glory they deserve."

In addition to the aforementioned 120Hz refresh rate (powered by Nvidia's G-sync tech) and 4K resolution, other BFGD features include a full-array direct backlight, 1,000-nit peak luminance, and DCI-P3 colour gamut. There's a bundled Nvidia Shield remote and controller as well as support for Google Assistant.

No other features or pricing as been announced as of now. The BFGDs are available for hands-on demos at CES and Nvidia states it will be available from "this summer" when pricing and further specifications are made public.

It's a welcome move by Nvidia to embrace what many consider two increasingly important facets to gaming - 4K resolution and HDR. And while we're certain that the price and availability of these BFGDs will be anything but palpable, it's a start. More so when you consider that 4K HDR TVs have been steadily dropping in price and we're yet to see PC monitors catch up in terms of feature set. Hopefully this should change when Acer, Asus, and HP launch their BFGDs.
