Google at its annual I/O Developer Conference revealed that it is now activating a million new Android devices every day, which is a whopping 150% increase from 400,000 activations in 2011.

In addition, the company also stated that there are over 400 million Android devices in consumer hands right now. This figure was just around 100 million in 2011. So in nutshell, currently Google is activating 12 new devices every second, every single day.

Talking about the markets that have showed maximum growth, Google commented that Android has grown 200-300 percent in markets like Japan, South Korea and France. While the emerging markets like India, Brazil, Thailand and Indonesia showed even more growth at around 500 percent.

Google's Android is an operating system for mobiles and tablets. The first ever device running on Android was HTC Dream G1, which was introduced in September 2008. Android has been rolling out many improvements and updates in the past few years. Even at this year's Google I/O keynote, they have announced a new version for Android - Jelly Bean (4.1)
