Google Nexus 5 may be produced by LG after all: Report

Google Nexus 5 rumours have hit the tech sphere yet again. The device that has been in the news since a long time might actually materialise soon. There was plenty of buzz that LG would be producing the next Nexus device, just like it was manufacturing the Google Nexus 4.

However, Kim Wong, Head of LG Europe recently made a statement that LG was not working on a Nexus 5 device. Contrary to that statement, Korean website Daum has now reported that the Korean mobile manufacturer might be working on the Nexus 5 after all. The website reported that LG Mobile has already produced the prototype of the Nexus 5. The device is reportedly under testing and has already been shown to Google CEO Larry Page.

It's strange that a report like this should come soon after a statement to the contrary from LG, so make what you will of this report.

It is interesting to note that LG has sold around 3 million Nexus 4 devices till date. And as stated by Wong it was a marketing success for LG. Though he also said that LG does not need such a marketing boost again, most people have a contrary view. With manufacturers like Samsung and HTC gaining in the market, a Nexus device that would also enable early access for LG to the Android code, can actually give LG the required boost.

Both Android Key Lime Pie and the Nexus 5 device were expected to hit the public eye during Google I/O. With the annual conference gone and neither of the two unveiled, it can be expected that the rumoured Nexus smartphone might come with the forthcoming Android version. When that would be is anyone's guess now.

Another interesting development that downplays the importance of Nexus devices is flagship devices such the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4 coming in stock Android versions.

As mentioned earlier, LG is the manufacturer of the current Nexus smartphone, the Google Nexus 4. The device that was recently launched in India for Rs. 25,999, comes with a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor with 2GB RAM.
