Teardown experts at iFixit have cracked open the latest iPhone SE to reveal its innards. While folks at Chipworks already did a teardown on the iPhone SE revealing that it came with a number of parts from older iPhones, the new teardown gives some new details.

According to iFixit, the iPhone SE features a lot of similarities to the iPhone 5s when it comes to the parts. The teardown experts found that the new 4-inch iPhone shared an identical display to the iPhone 5s. It also experimented by interchanging the components of the iPhone SE with iPhone 5s. In particular, it interchanged the display, loudspeaker, SIM card tray, and vibration motor.

"Our testing confirms all these bits are interchangeable with their counterparts from the 5s-same form, same function. They bolt right up, and they work like a charm," said the iFixit report.

iFixit also claimed that the iPhone SE packed a larger battery of 1624mAh capacity than the iPhone 5s which shipped with a 1560mAh one. Soon after the launch, Apple on its website rated the iPhone SE to deliver better battery backup than the bigger iPhone 6s. According to iFixit, the iPhone 6s packs a 1715mAh battery.

The teardown also re-confirmed that the iPhone SE featured a similar camera module as the larger iPhone 6s.

iFixit reported that some components on the iPhone SE came with waterproofing seals. It said, "The front camera, volume controls, and rear camera connectors all get the fancy waterproofing treatment, while the LCD, digitizer, battery, and Lightning connector assembly all seemingly go without."

The teardown also lists some of the modules used by Apple including Apple A9 APL1022 SoC; SK Hynix 2 GB LPDDR4 RAM; Qualcomm MDM9625M LTE Modem; Qualcomm WTR1625L RF Transceiver; Qualcomm QFE1100 Envelope Tracking IC; Skyworks SKY77611 Quad-band Power Amplifier Module; Toshiba THGBX5G7D2KLDXG 16 GB NAND Flash, and Broadcom BCM5976 Touchscreen Controller. iFixit gave iPhone SE 6 out of 10 score repair-ability.
