MIUI 8 China Developer ROM Now Available; Xiaomi Releases Changelog

Xiaomi back in May introduced its new MIUI 8 ROM and promised that the first developer ROM will be available to download starting June 17. The Chinese company keeping its promise has released the first MIUI 8 China Developer ROM (version 6.6.16) and has also revealed the changelog.

According to Xiaomi, the supported devices are Xiaomi Mi 2/2S, Mi 3, Mi 4, Mi 4c, Mi 4S, Mi 5, Mi Max, Mi Note, and Mi Note Pro. The supported Redmi devices include the Redmi 1, Redmi 1S, Redmi 2, Redmi 2A, Redmi 2 Prime, Redmi 3, Redmi 3S, Redmi Note, Redmi Note 4G, Redmi Note Prime, Redmi Note 2, and the Redmi Note 3 (both the MediaTek and Qualcomm units).

The company says that users on the latest MIUI China Developer ROM will get MIUI 8 OTA update notifications on their phones. For others, Xiaomi has provided a comprehensive guide to flashing their devices. The MIUI 8 China Developer ROM changelog includes over a thousand optimisations in MIUI 8 apart from new features.

Some of the new features introduced in the first MIUI 8 China Developer ROM (version 6.6.16) are brand new design, second space, support for cloning most apps, long screenshots, new Calculator app, new scanner, shortcut menu, Mi Lanting font, support for speech-to-text output in recorder, special effects for video editing, new templates for Notes, redesigned Task Manager, redesigned Gallery app, Smart menu for editing text, Wallpaper Carousel, all-new Battery saver, and also brings recognition for fraudulent messages.

At the launch of MIUI 8 ROM in May, Xiaomi had claimed that there were 200 million MIUI users worldwide.
