Samsung Galaxy Discover without TouchWiz rumoured to offer raw Android experience

Samsung is all set to launch a new smartphone in the Galaxy series dubbed as the Galaxy Discover for US customers. But this time around, the company has decided to strip the device of its proprietary TouchWiz UI, reports SammyHub. The smartphone will offer a raw Android experience to users.

The Galaxy Discover is expected to be offered by Net10 and Straight Talk telecom operators. Measuring 4.59" x 2.42" x .45" and weighing close to 124 grams, it comes with a 3.5-inch HVGA display and will run on stock Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. There's a 3-megapixel rear camera with 3x digital optical zoom. Various camera features include Shot Modes, Auto, Night, Party, Sunset; Geo-tagging; Camcorder and Online Image Uploading.

On the inside, the device is powered by an 800MHz Qualcomm MSM7225A processor and features 2.7GB of user accessible storage. External expansion support of up to 32GB is available. it comes with a 1,300 mAh battery claiming to offer upto 8.5 hours of talk time. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS.

Calling functionality features on the smartphone include voice recognition, voicemail, speech-to-text and picture caller ID. The smartphone comes with audio and video player apps that support a variety of playing formats. It is also compatible with Microsoft Office.

Pricing and availability details are unknown as of now. But going by the specs, it seems to be a low end device.

As part of the company's leaked roadmap, Samsung is expected to launch many devices during the year. It has already announced two mid-range offerings in the form of the Galaxy Young and Galaxy Fame devices, though pricing and availability are yet to be confirmed.

The Galaxy Young features a 3.27-inch HVGA TFT display that runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Other features include a 3-megapixel rear camera, a 1GHz processor with 768MB RAM, 4GB of internal storage and a microSD expansion slot with support for up to 64GB, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, USB 2.0 and a 1,300mAh battery. The device will be available in white, wine red, deep blue and metallic silver and also come in a dual-SIM version.

The Galaxy Fame, on the other hand, flaunts a bigger 3.5-inch display with an HVGA resolution and runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean skinned with Samsung's TouchWiz UI atop. It has a 5-megapixel autofocus rear camera with LED flash and a VGA front camera as well. There's a 1GHz processor with 512MB RAM, 4GB internal storage with up to 64GB of expansion, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, USB 2.0, optional NFC and a 1,300 mAh battery. The Galaxy Fame will be available in Pearl White and Metallic Blue colours and will also have a dual-SIM variant.

Apart form this, the company also launched the Galaxy Xcover 2 last week that sports a rugged form factor best suited for outdoor  use.is dust and sand proof and even water resistant to a depth of one meter for up to 30 minutes (IP67 Certified). Users can take under water pictures with the help of a dedicated camera button. There's a strap holder as well that helps you avoid dropping the phone along with a battery cover lock as well.

Other features include a 4-inch WVGA TFT LCD display , Android 4.1, a 5-megapixel rear camera and a VGA front camera, 1GHz dual-core processor with 1GB RAM, 4GB of on-board storage with external expansion support up to 32GB and a standard Li-ion 1,700mAh battery.
