  • The launch of Galaxy X now appears imminent

Samsung's ambitions to introduce the world's first foldable smartphone seem to be finally getting off the ground as the South Korean company has got its Galaxy X foldable smartphone certified in its home country. The South Korean certification body has certified Galaxy X (model number SM-G888N0), as per a report.

According to a report by LetsGoDigital, spotted by GSMArena, the National Radio Research Agency (NRRA) of the Korea Communications Commission (KCC) has given approval for radio connectivity on Samsung's alleged foldable smartphone. As we said, the smartphone, which has been passed by the South Korean regulator equivalent to US FCC, bears a model name SM-G888N0, which doesn't really shed any light on the what the final device will look like. However, the 'N0' part at the end of the model name suggests a Korean model.

On the certification result page, the model number SM-G888N0 is marked as "Equipment of radio equipment for LTE mobile communication", which means that it could be any device, but a device bearing the same model number was previously spotted on the Wi-Fi alliance as a smartphone. While the things look blurry right now in terms of the device's identity, its US FCC certification listing will clear the air in the coming weeks.

To recall, Samsung's mobile chief DJ Koh earlier this month said that the South Korean colossus is planning to introduce a foldable smartphone in its Galaxy Note smartphone series by as early as 2018. The smartphone has previously been referred to Galaxy X, however this name is not official. The Galaxy X will take on the latest Apple's iPhone X that features an all-screen display with just a notch at the top.
