Asus India teases a new launch, FonePad expected

Asus India is teasing the launch of new device on its website. The teaser showcases a white product with the text "Meet the new family member". It is likely that the Taiwanese manufacturer will be launching its FonePad in India. However, there's no indication of the date of launch or the price of this device yet.

Asus had unveiled its FonePad at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2013. It is a 7-inch tablet that also offers phone functionality, including 3G connectivity for mobile data and full telephony support. The Asus FonePad is powered by 1.2GHz Intel Atom Z2420 processor. It runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) and features an HD display with IPS technology for wide viewing angles and clarity. The tablet has 1GB of RAM, and a PowerVR SGX540 chip for processing graphics.

The Asus FonePad packs in a 3-megapixel rear camera and a 1.2-megapixel front camera. It weighs 340 grams and is 10.4mm thick.

The device comes with 16GB of internal storage, which is expandable up to 32GB, with a microSD card. FonePad users also get 5GB of free cloud storage for lifetime through Asus WebStorage for syncing and sharing data with other devices. The FonePad has a 4270mAH battery which as per the company promises up to 9 hours of running time.

This device is already on sale in UK and costs 179 Pounds, which translates to roughly Rs. 14,900.

Asus is already offering Asus MeMO Pad ME172V (Review) and Google Nexus 7 (16GB and 32GB version) tablets in India. Asus MeMO Pad ME172V comes with 7-inch screen that has a display resolution of 1024x600 pixels and offers 10-point multi-touch. This tablet runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) and offers full support for Google Play. It is powered by VIA WM8950 processor clocked at 1GHz that is coupled with a Mali-400 GPU.

Asus MeMO Pad ME172V comes with 1GB of RAM and 8GB internal storage, which can be expanded by up to 32GB via microSD.

For camera, there is a 1-megapixel front camera with f/2.0 aperture that can record 720p video at 30fps but no rear camera. Asus MeMO Pad ME172V offers Wi-Fi connectivity and has a 4,270mAh battery. The tablet is available in Pink, Grey and White colours for Rs. 9,999.
